Plan a home recording setup around your sound sources

The choice of studio and recording equipment begins with the sound you want to record. Recording vocals, guitars, keyboards, or multiple instruments at the same time gives rise to different input and listening needs. Think of audio interface, earphone, and connection cables as a system that works together, not individually. It is more functional to install an accurate audio path between the existing computer, software, and source, rather than initially getting a large number of devices.

Entries and record stream

The outputs at the microphone, instrument and line level may not be used with the same input setting. Check the connections supported by the audio interface and how many resources you can record at the same time. The shape of the USB port does not show operating system compatibility or driver support alone. If the software license is included, the activation conditions and scope should also be examined. Knowing that audio recording is different with MIDI control data makes keyboard installation more understandable.

Listening and study area

At the time of recording, the earphone, followed by the speaker, offers different conditions of evaluation. The comfort of the earpiece affects the use of the connection tip and sound leaking behavior out during recording. The room's reflections and microphone placement also play a role as a result of the recording; just getting new hardware does not solve all the problems. It is useful to work at safe sound levels and make short comparisons. Planning cables, stands, and access on the table facilitates daily flow even in a small studio.

Frequently asked questions

How many input audio interface do you need to start?

Determine the number of resources you will save at the same time. The need to work with a single microphone and get the vocals and guitar simultaneously to separate channels is different. The type of inputs is just as important as the number; don't just decide by the total number.

Does expensive equipment provide good direct recording?

Oh, no. The source sound, performance, placement, and correct level setting also affect the result. Recognizing your current system and determining where the problem occurs helps prevent you from budgeting for a piece you don't need.
