Music cables: connectors, signal type and length
The choice of cables is not just about two sockets sitting together. Instrument signal, microphone connection, speaker line and digital data have different needs. Connecting the guitar to the amphibious may not require the same cable as connecting the mixer to the active speaker. Read the input and output labels of the two devices first. Then determine the type of signal you are carrying, the connection and length required; don't consider the socket appearance alone sufficient.
Signal with socket is not the same thing
Links such as TS, TRS and XLR are used in different layouts. The TRS socket can be included in some devices for balanced mono signal, some for stereo earphone connection. Therefore, it is not enough to determine the purpose of use simply by counting the rings. The instrument cable and the speaker cable are also not direct alternatives to each other. Evaluate MIDI, USB and audio connections separately. Using a converter does not automatically harmonize the signal level of the devices.
Length and regular installation
Too long cable can create unnecessary entanglement on the table or stage. In pedal connections, short cables are functional, and in mobile use, sufficient access share is functional. Check the socket direction and the gap in the device's panel. Not bending the cable sharply, holding it from the fuselage while removing it from the connection, and regular winding are part of the habit of using it. When the sound is cut or hummed, it may be more revealing to determine the source of the problem by trying the cable separately from other connections.
Frequently asked questions
Can guitar cable be used for speaker?
They are not usually produced for the same purpose. In particular, the speaker cable and connection layout recommended by the manufacturer should be used between the amphibious and passive cabin. The similarity of sockets does not indicate that it uses the right type of cable.
Does an adapter solve all connection problems?
Oh, no. Converting sockets does not guarantee signal level, balanced connection, or device compatibility. You need to evaluate the model and ports of the two devices you want to connect together. Refer to the manual or technical support in uncertain connections.
